“Painted finishes tend to be very popular; especially in kitchens where we see a lot of two-tone finishes. In many cases, the perimeter cabinetry is painted in a crisp white or off white finish to accent a dark walnut or similar stained island to add depth to the kitchen”, states Eric Parlin, Design Manager of Tharp Cabinets. This trend is common with contemporary, minimalistic cabinets, as well as transitional, linear-styled cabinetry.
If you prefer more of a traditional cabinet, a Linen Paint and Glaze finish offers a more distressed look and feel, and may be complimented with applied door moldings, crown molding and other woodwork details that create that “Old World” charm. “We’re also seeing this type of finish applied to powder bath cabinetry to make it look like a custom piece of furniture,” adds Parlin.
