“Thank you for all of your support”, boasts Kayleen. “The MDA could not provide the help to so many Colorado families without your generous donations”!

The Loveland/Windsor 2012 Lock-up raised over $28,000! $1,900 was raised by friends, family and colleagues of Kayleen.

Busting out of jail was quite an accomplishment, but don’t forget there’s a 45 day “probationary period” and donations can still be made towards my bail until June 10th.

Older houses can be charming and cozy in a way that newer homes simply can’t be. Unfortunately, if you live an older home, there’s a chance your closets are too small. Small closets are often difficult to work with, especially if you own a lot of things that need to be stashed away and out of sight. The good news is that there are options to increase your home’s available storage space without tearing down any walls. Here are three options for not-so-proud owners of tiny closets:

1. Transform your closet.

A long-term, highly effective solution is to maximize all the usable space you have in your closets. You can do this by adding shelves, drawers, and racks that make the most out of closet wall space. Tharp can transform your small closet into a “Master Closet,” which is a closet that includes plenty of racks, shelves, and drawers that provide extra spots for you to store all of your belongings. Additionally, Tharp will customize your Master Closet based on your individual closet storage needs.

2. Take advantage of your garage.

If you have a garage, you should consider taking advantage of it to store some of your things. Be careful, however. It’s hardly ever a good idea to let all of your excess belongings pile up in the garage in disorganized heaps. The more racks, shelves, and cabinets you have in your garage, the easier it will be to keep things organized. Tharp can install attractive and sturdy cabinets, shelves, and drawers in your garage that allow you to store your extra belongings easily while leaving enough room for you to park your car in the garage. Tharp cabinets can help easily help with options 1 and 2, so contact the pro’s at Tharp Cabinet Corporation for more details.

3. Consider self storage options in some circumstances.

Sometimes remodeling your closets and garage to maximize usable space isn’t enough. If you inherit a large amount of furniture, for instance, you may need to find a storage solution outside of your home. One of the best storage solutions for this kind of situation is self storage. Additionally, if you’re relocating to a new place, but you aren’t ready to take all of your belongings with you, self storage could be of great benefit to you. You can research self storage facilities and find relevant reviews about these facilities online. Just make sure you pick the safest place to store your extra stuff!

This blog post was written by guest blogger Mike James. Author’s Bio: Working with self storage users all over the Unites States, Mike James helps customers store their stuff in places like a Richmond self storage unit and in a self storage unit in Baltimore. When Mike is away from the office, you can find him playing with his kids, hiking or working on the current home improvement project.

Considered one of the premier shows of it’s kind, The Colorado Garden and Home Show is one of the region’s largest, oldest and most prestigious consumer home improvement show west of the Mississippi. With over 60,000 in attendance, this show was one of the best in years. Here we showcased several kitchen vignettes, bathroom vanities, a Murphy bed and even demonstrated the difference between an old, dated cabinet and how we can reface it to look like new. All and all the event was a huge success and we were able to showcase what we do best at Tharp Cabinets.

Did you miss the show? Not to worry, you can view all of these items and more at our showroom in Loveland, Colorado! Simply email us at info@tharpcabinets.com to set-up your personal tour and learn why Tharp Cabinets should design and build your new cabinets.

Over the last few months, Tharp Cabinet Corporation developed various campaigns to donate food and money to the Food Bank of Larimer County. As a result of their efforts, they presented a check along with donated food from their employees to the food bank at the end of the year. The check totaled $820 for their Facebook campaign and new orders for commercial kitchens signed during the month of November. It also included a $100 that was pledged on Colorado Cares Day in December (in total, enough to buy 3,700 meals). In addition to the check, Tharp Cabinet Corporation donated over 200 pounds of food. “All in all, we are very pleased how our employees and the community at large responded to help us give to the Food Bank of Larimer County and make a difference in the lives of others,” states Kayleen Fraley, CFO of Tharp Cabinet Corporation.

We often get this question, as the requests for new contemporary kitchen designs have increased over the years. Here are some key elements that differentiate contemporary kitchens from other designs:

Minimal detail: The simpler the better for door styles and moldings. A slab door with no detail, which accentuates the grain of the wood or the paint color, is the most popular with this style. On the softer side, we are using some simple recessed panel doors, often associated with the mission style, with a stained or painted finish. Moldings are either non-existent or very simple.

Clean lines: European Frameless cabinets are the norm for these designs because they have full overlay doors. These designs typically have a horizontal flow, which has a harmonious effect. This is achieved by using shorter wall cabinets and lining up doors and drawers across the elevation of a wall.

Open cabinets and wall space: A lot of open display area is highly desired. Whether it is an open cabinet or extra thick, wall-mounted shelves with wall color or tile behind contribute to the contemporary flair. In additional, elevated islands give the illusion of floating for a very open and contemporary feel.

Glass: Various types of glass are used like satin or mosaic glass, often with specialized lift-up hardware.

Finishes: Painted finishes with high-gloss topcoat and natural finishes on cherry, walnut or maple are all very popular when designing in this style.

Hardware: Stainless steel over-sized handles to match the appliances are a nice accent.

One of the latest trends in home design is to incorporate drop zones throughout the house for ease and convenience. A drop zone is a built-in cabinet that provides everyone in the family a place to “drop” their keys, wallets, purses, cell phones, etc.; it’s basically a place to empty your pockets before you enter the main areas of your home. Rather than pile these things on a counter and cluttering things up, we have designed a specific place for our customers to store, organize and re-charge these items. Sometimes drop zones are part of a mudroom and other times they’re incorporated into the kitchen desk area. We have also built drop zones in other locations, which may include hallways between the garage and kitchen.

When designing these spaces, we try to learn as much about our customer’s needs as possible – which includes their family’s daily routines. They may need drawers to store items and have charging cords inside to cut down on the clutter. Or maybe the customer needs a place to sort the mail or organize the kids school assignments. In these cases, file drawers or “cubbies” can be utilized the create the perfect area for their family. The possibilities are really endless when it comes to creating drop zone areas. This is just another example of how we can personalize our custom cabinetry to fit the lifestyles of our customers.

Interested in having a drop zone built in your home? Contact the professionals at the Tharp to help at info@tharpcabinet.com

To help those in need this holiday season, Tharp Cabinet Corporation, is partnering with Food Bank for Larimer County (FBLC) to “fill the pantry” for those struggling with hunger.

Tharp employees have been encouraged to donate non-perishable food as well during the campaign.

Tharp expert: There are a lot of factors that contribute to making a kitchen great. Here are a few things to consider:

The space should be visually appealing. Every kitchen needs a focal point, a cool feature that grabs your attention and entertains the eye. Depending on your style preference, this may be a dramatic wood hood over the range, open display shelving or a commercial stainless steel appliance appropriately placed in the space. In addition, kitchens have become the very center of the home where all congregate and are typically open to living spaces. As such, run of the mill kitchen cabinets are less desirable and furniture-like cabinetry excels. This can be done through architectural detail like turned legs and corbels and upgraded finishes. For a contemporary design it might be a “floating” island with beautiful, crisp lines.

A kitchen must be functional. The space planning and layout of the work triangle are crucial to make kitchen tasks more efficient. A professional kitchen designer can help clients to customize the space to their needs while applying the principles of design and the 31 kitchen guidelines published by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. These guidelines offer parameters for functional and safe placement of appliances, walkway sizes needed and minimum counter space and storage requirements to name a few.

A kitchen should be accommodating to friends and family. Think about it. When you go to a party or gathering, the kitchen is where the action is. Large center islands that provide seating for guests are a huge hit, allowing guests to interact with their hosts while they prepare and serve food and drinks. A small prep sink located outside the primary work triangle gives guests or family members a place to wash their hands or help prepare snacks without getting in the cooks way.

Since 1971 Tharp Cabinet Corporation has been providing high-quality custom cabinetry at a great price. With nearly 1,000 projects completed per year, Tharp designers have the experience and tools to make your dreams of great kitchen a reality. For a free, in-home consultation, please contact us at info@tharpcabinets.com.

Over the past 5-6 years, we at Tharp have responded to customer interest in making their closet more functional and visually appealing. We found that, even in high end homes, contractors were commonly installing flimsy wire shelving and hanging systems or just painted particle board shelves in the closets. At the same time closet solutions like California Closets were available, but this solution was overpriced and left something to be desired. Considering the wide scope of abilities we have to make custom cabinets, some of our clients asked us what we could do make their master closet, for example, as beautiful and functional as the rest of their home.

In 2007 we introduced the Tharp “Master Closet” product line. This new offering allowed our clients to get a wonderful closet system with solid wood face frames and doors, matching melamine interiors and a wide array of accessories such as drawer chests, built in hampers, jewelry drawers, ironing boards, tie racks and so on. Customers have their choice of Walnut, Knotty Alder, Maple and Select Alder woods, a huge improvement over particle board or wire installations. The bottom line is that customers could now get a knock out closet that looked like furniture starting at around $3,000.00. The feedback we received was that our solution was better quality and cost thousands less than some of the national closet brands.

In addition, in 2010 Tharp introduced matching closet component parts to the Master Closet line. This allowed us to design a closet with a couple of Master Closet cabinets to give them some drawer space and cabinetry to anchor the design and then trim out the rest of the space for hanging clothes with our wood shelving and satin nickel rods. Now we could offer a closet package starting at around $1,200.00, a very attractive upgrade when you consider the improvements to the function and aesthetics. For more information on our closet components, visit www.tharpcabinets.com/projects/closets/.
